I have a JD 2305 and I have found a used MX5 JD shredder/mower (rotary cutter). Does anyone know if my 24 hp tractor can handle this mower? I think I can get this 3pt mower for a fair price but if my tractor is going to over heat it may be a bad choice. Please advice.

Thanks!

I write as someone who has a 2305 with a belly mower and a 4610 which pulls an MX-6, and who has in the past had the use of a 30HP Cub Cadet pulling an MX-5. While the 2305 works well with a 62-inch belly mower, I think an MX-5 will be a bit much for it. Recommend you look at 4-foot cutters.

I agree that the MX5 will be to much, it's not just a HP thing, it's also weight. The MX series cutters are heavy duty and weigh more than other 5' cutters.

Never in a million years. MX-5 is a serious cutter that would work well with 40 hp. My 6' is slowed in deep thick grass being pulled by a 55 hp diesel.

Thank you everyone. I was afraid the MX5 would be to big, so I better pass and continue looking for a 4-foot cutter.

I would even consider the 42" cutters that are made for that size tractor. Weight is the big issue, and how far back that weight is. I have a somewhat larger Kubota B series, and find that a 4' Bush Hog Squealer is all that I want back there. Others will disagree, of course, but I don't like the tail wagging the dog. My land is a bit steep in places too, and that flavors my opinions.
