1967 John Deere 2020 hi/lo trans, utility tractor, with diff lock, 540 pto, live pto, rear hyd outputs. The tractor is in real good shape, good paint (not new, just good) good sheet metal, only a few small leaks. It does not have the CBC fuel pump. the owner just had the fuel pump rebuilt. looks brand new. It has a lot of new RTV seeping from different areas. All fluids look clean.

Here is where my concern. It has the Orchard exhaust (exits down and out the back of the tractor) which I really like as im bushhogging under a lot of trees. However, at the first connection, just after the exhaust manifold, there is a lot of Oil seeping out. Its wet oil. It is also seeping oil out of the muffler, which is the next connection in the exhaust. At the tail pipe there is also wet oil/exhaust powder.

The Hour meter shows 1050 hours, that's 22 hours per year??

Here are my thoughts: I think the tractor started to hard start and lack power. owner tried the resolve issue by guessing at either a bad motor or a bad fuel pump. rebuilt fuel pump. didn't resolve the lack of power. Owner Purchases new tractor and tries to dump bad engine on someone else. he is selling the tractor for $4,500.

I have not heard the tractor run nor have I driven the tractor yet. He says it starts and runs great.

What do yall think about the amount of Oil Blow by? is this "normal" on an orchard exhaust. I work around diesel engines everyday and I know they can black stack when run hard and I know that oil blow by isn't always a death sentence but what do you think??

thanks,
wiltz

I would try to buy it a little cheaper and plan on rebuilding the engine soon. Pretty sure this is a wet sleeved motor, might want to check price and availability of new liners and pistons for it. I should add that you might need to run a few tests first but most of the cost if you do rebuild it would be the liner kits and a valve job at a machine shop.
