john deere 160 wont move

picked up a john deere 160. runs great but wont move in any gear its a peerless 801-038a 5 speed transaxle tighten the belts still nothing the pulley on top of the transaxle is spinning. dont under stand it woulden it have to have stripped gears cause its gear driven and not a hydrostat. any one had this problem before. the gear lever go's thru all the gears no problem. thanks in advance.

Welcome, will answer the second post. Are you sure that the pulley on the tranny is turning the drive shaft, or is it stripped out?
