Hello
I am new to tractorbynet I am pleased to have this opportunity to work with other tractor folks.

I just bought a 1975-75 John Deere 1530. I located it in a field that the grass was taller then the tractor. The owner said that the first owner had it in a barn and had not run it for seven years due to a illness and death. The hour meter is broken but it shows almost 1100 hrs. The tractor looks good and when it runs ( with ether or pulling start ) everything works front end loader, pto, three point hitch, clutch and brakes.
I installed two 420 cca batteries with new heavy gauge battery cable, rewired the starter, dump the fuel and filter and replaced with new. Replaced the rubber return fuel lines. I have checked that all three of the injectors are firing. It turns over fine but it will not fire up.
There is fuel seeping from the injectors and I can't seem to make this stop. There is a lot of blow by from the oil breather and blue smoke from the tail pipe and the oil pan gasket is blown.
My question is where do I go from here?

Thanks for any help

If you have a lot of blow by I would say that you probably have a compression issue.
Without enough compression the combustion chamber will not get hot enough to ignite the diesel fuel.
By pull starting you are increasing the rpms and this gives you a little more compression.
Using ether it has a lower flash point and the engine starts.
If you can find a shop that would have a compression tester that should tell you for sure.
You are probably looking at a ring job for starters. Maybe more when you get it tore down.
Good Luck!

Replace the pan gasket. It may just need to be run hard to free up the rings. I would consult with a dealer on the injectors leaking; may be they can be rebuilt or need to be replaced. I am NOT a fan of ether for starting, it can do more damage than good. I use the block heater when my 2030 will not start (not a good cold weather starter)
