John deere 1070 1995
I'm new to the owning a tractor but have ran big deere 81-83 series for a larger farm operation. I bought a compact for my acreage. After buying the machine from a auction with 1300 hours for a good price I replaced all fluids an ordered bought a manual on ebay. And read up on my tractor started to get the feeling of the tractor. the dif lock when I press the lever down I can't tell if it engaged. Normal big tractors you engage it the way to kick it out is to tap on a brake pedel. But I only hear brakes squeak. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with a dif lock on a deere 1070

When you push the pedal down it engages as long as it is down. If you release the pedal it will stay engaged as long as there is more torque on one wheel (wheels stay bound together, if you will). As soon as the tension between the wheels is equalized it will release. As far as telling whether or not it's engaged, try steering. If you don't notice a difference in steering, it is not engaged. It is very difficult to get the tractor to steer when the diff lock is engaged.

Welcome to our group!
May I offer you a PDF copy of the Deere Tech manual if you'd. Like it?
Shoot me your email if so.

If I'm doing things correctly - then there is no audible noise when the tractor goes in/out of rear diff lock. On very slick surfaces - ice or wet ice - you can see both rear tires spinning together with it engaged. I only use diff lock when plowing snow off the driveway. It will keep the tractor going straight rather than crabbing.

Joe ya I will take you up on the offer.
Oosik ya I was blading large mounds of gravel on driveway I was pushing the lever down but never feel it click. The spring on the lever looks like it's got some shine on it. Like it's new I don't know if it has been replaced. The only way the lever goes up is if I pick it back up with my heel.
