Hi all, I recently purchased a used JD1050 and noticed that when I pull the PTO lever back to disengage, the shaft continues to turn ever so slowly. If I keep upward pressure on the lever, the pto will stop completely. If I let go of the lever, it slides forward a fraction of an inch.....just enough so that pto turns slowly. It doesn't seem to be affecting anything. The tractor runs and sounds great. Any ideas on what could be causing the handle to slide forward? Also, I noticed the tachometer doesn't seem to be working. The hours are incrementing correctly but the needle doesn't seem to want to move. Any ideas on getting the tachometer to respond? Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have the same JD 1050, 1988. The tachometer doesn't work, but the cable drive is fine. Any idea where to find an inexpensive replacement? From the dealer they are about $360. Or used? I might just crack the case and see what I can do to repair it.
Thanks,
Ethan

Ethan, I was able to get a used tach for a 1050 for about $200. I tried to find one that had hours as close to my original tach so it's easy to remember the "real" tractor hours. Good luck with cracking the case. I went down this rabbit hole as well. I was able to get the case open and tried to reset the needle. Once reassembled, I went from a needle that didn't move to a needle that free spun. I waived the white flag of retreat and got the used part with a 30 day warranty. Now I have accurate rpm readings. Good Luck.

I'd be interested in knowing where you found it? I have looked around with out much luck, and watched ebay also. The JD number id CH 20169. If you know of any other compatible JD or aftermarket models, let me know. It was originally made by NipponDenson, but no luck there. I found a local speedo shot that is going to "crack the can" and see if they can fix it, so I am hopeful that will work out ok. Other option is a VDO tach that links to either alternator or a drive shaft, or another electronic one with LCD readout and magnetic pickup off the shaft. The latter requires some mods to mount, but no big deal. Thanks for the reply.
