I have a John Deere 1020 tractor. The threaded nipple came out with my oil filter. It does not slide back in easily. Do I just hammer it in place and if so, do I line up the threaded nipple to be at the bottom where the oil hole is? Or do I turn it some degrees off so when it tightens it lines up?

Thanks

Welcome to TBN
JDparts.com shows the nipple but I have no idea how it attaches to block.

G'day my guess is that it will thread back into the block , clean both the threads up and a drop of loctite should stop it from coming out again. As far as depth goes screw it in and see if it bottoms out if not screw it in and butt the filter up to the end of the thread you want about a 1/2 to 3/4" gap between the filter housing and the seal before you screw the filter on

Thanks for your input but only one side has threads. The side that goes into the tractor just slips in (tightly). I ended up buying a new part, cleaning everything with carburetor cleaner, using a high temperature loctite, and hammering the part in using a big socket to protect the threads that teh filter screws into and waiting overnight. So far so good.
