Please keep us informed on your progress. When I mentioned the idea of building a pond with my JD 790 to the JD dealer, he thought I was nuts. Years ago, however, they didn't have bulldozers and yet they built ponds.

That sand may be trouble. Have you figured where the water table is?

Here's a photo of my small pond taken a couple of months ago. It is eight feet deep and holds bass, catfish, bluegills and minnows.

I like it. How big across is it? Is it filled from a creek, rain or what?

I remember seeing a picture of someone building a pond by pulling a scoop berhind a team of mules. I don't think I would want to do that today even though it's possible. I think I side with the guy who prefers a dozer, but everyone to his own...
Your small pond looks excellent and I know you must be proud that you did it by yourself. That's worth a lot. ...now does your wife want to have home birth instead of using a hospital?/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

JimI, you ever been to Lake Murray State Park at Ardmore, OK? That lake was built with scoops behind teams of mules.

Thank you. It is only about 25 ft. x 30 ft. It's filled by rain via a small drainage hollow. Our soil here is perfect for ponds. I didn't dig it, my neighbor did it with his excavator. He owns a good size construction company.

However, I am thinking of putting another, larger pond elsewhere on my property. That is why I am very interested in your project. Please keep us posted, it is very hard to find information like this anywhere....

Bird, I've never been there (only close-by), but that may be the picture I saw of the muleteams pulling scoops. I think the scoops were about the size of the 36" 3pt dumpscoops for tractors. You can certainly do anything by taking a small bite, but taking a lot of them. After all, isn't that a theory on how the pyramids were built? I do have to admit also that nothing in the picture I saw would ever make me want to build my own lake or pond that way. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

JimI, that very well could have been the picture you saw; although other lakes were also built that way. The reason I always remember that about Lake Murray is because I grew up near there, and my mother had an uncle who was driving one of those mule teams. She said it was a good paying job for that time, and while I don't remember how long it took, it wasn't just a temporary job./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
