John Bud\'s Tractor with \"new\" plow

Here is a photo of my L3410HST with the Gannon 65" box blade and the 2 bottom plow that a buddy of mine gave me (free /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif). It's not a good shot of the plow, it's a John Deere and I have no idea how old or any of that. The trip works and the rest seems too also, but the rubber is shot to heck! Oh well, free is still a decent price!

Re: John Bud\'s Tractor with \"new\" plow

Here is a photo of a pond that I am digging. It doesn't show the depth too good, but the hole is about 5-6 foot deep and big enough to turn the tractor around in. The photo was taken Sunday the 10th. It rained like snot on Monday and now the dern hole is full of water up to the top! Normally a good thing for a pond, but I still have more digging to do! Doh!

I found that I get good progress by filling the FEL and then dragging the box blade to the dump area for a double load. Even with the FEL full of dirt, in 4WD the tractor can lose traction and spin both rears and the one front tire. Then the next second be stalled out going up the grade out of the hole.

Nice picture of the future operator. Looks like he is studying the dash before operating. That's safty first. I was also glad to hear you didn't leave the tractor in the hole the night the rain came. Some wouldn't share that kind of photo. Let us see the finnished project, after the rains.

Re: John Bud\'s Tractor with "new" plow

What kind of soil are you digging in? Clay, sand? How big will the finished pond be and how deep? Are you going to do it all with the FEL and box scraper, or do you plan a deep spot that will have to be done with a hoe? Do you have a spring? Hoping to find one? Rain fill? Well and pump? Will you need a pond liner?

John Bud,

IF that is you on the tractor, you are much smaller than I pictured./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Keep us posted on the pond project. Looks like fun to me.

Wow! You really do have your work cut out for you on that pond. Here's a photo of one of the areas I want to put a pond on my property and I think I'll get a dozer in to do it when the time comes. Good luck! I don't know what to say abut the rain/water issue except maybe a trash pump might help you empty the water out.

Re: John Bud\'s Tractor with \"new\" plow

Where to start? The soil is clay on top, gravel in the middle and sand in the bottom (so far!) I want the finished pond to have 2-3 deep areas that will be ~6 foot deep and have a "full" surface area of about 1/3 acre. I'd LIKE it to be bigger, but we all have our limits /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif. I will do the job with my own 'little' butt in the seat of the L3410 with FEL and box. I didn't think that I needed a hoe as I can make a ramp and go down and get the dirt with the FEL. AFter all, it's gonna be fairly large, eh? I don't think that there is a spring, but my neighbor's land seems to all drain on to mine, so I hope to use rain fill only. I will be lining the pond with clay. My clay is a bit too sandy, so I will probably have to break down and PAY for some.

I may have to get a trash pump and suck out all the water. It's been a week (well 6 days) and the water is only down 1.5 feet. And its ALL sand on the bottom 500 ft2 in the deep area. But with the rains we have been getting, the soil is dern saturated right now. I have some more pic's to get developed, so stay tuned!
