I am giving consideration to a box blade purchase.
Appreciate comment and input on the best functional size and match for my JM 284LE.
Really do not want to go with a box that is too small or too large for the 284LE.

Soil characteristic condition here is variable.
There are areas with nice topsoil, other areas with mixed shale/clay and others with soil and stone.
The box would be used in all of these areas.

thanks,
corey

Assuming ag tires, 5' should be fine for you. Covers the wheel tracks and is not too big for most soil conditions. Some have reported success with 6', but if your LE is a shuttle shift, you might run into issues with some soil conditions (no creeper). I have a King Kutter, which I'd consider a light duty boxblade. Does what I need to do. Heavier duty are just made with thicker metal and can take more abuse. I don't see the need to go any heavier than a medium duty unit.

I think the 5 foot is a nice match. I have had no complaints with the LE model with shuttle shift yet ... that I have sold.

Concur with those already posting. A six footer might lead to unjustified disappointment with the tractor, stick with a five footer

JohnS, Ranch Hand Supp and greg g,

Thanks for the input.
Appreciate your comments that help in selection of a box blade.

The 284 LE tires are agricultural.
It is a standard shift with creeper.

I'll start shopping for a 5' box blade.
