That is a bit of a "strange" request, but here is a photo of the whole tractor just after I installed a grapple onto my rock bucket.

Wow Jim, that sure is an impressive implement on the front of your tractor. With as rocky as my ground is here in northeast New York I could sure get some uses with it building some stonewalls. How often do you switch to a solid bucket? Does it take long to switch?

Tim, it takes me about a minute to switch implements since I have the quick-attach plate. That's from the time the first implement is lowered to the ground until I'm driving away with my bucket or some other attachment. My wife (who is pretty tiny) regularly switches between a bucket and her bale spear on the FEL. She said she used to think a 3PH was easy, but since the quick-attach has spoiled her, the 3PH seems crude and a PITA. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Your tractor might be a bit light for this rock bucket. It weighs about 700 lb with the grapple. It really limits the lift ability of the 16LA to about 1000 lb. It's a great tool, but there is a tradeoff because of weight and the fact that it sticks out about twice as far as the normal FEL bucket. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Jim,

I believe you’re correct about your grapple being too heavy for my 33D. I’ve been thinking about have some hooks welded to the top of my bucket, actually 3, one at each end and one in the middle. I have the Heavy Duty 60” wide bucket which has a pipe across the top. Since I don’t have a means to transport the entire tractor, but I could take the bucket to a welder. How difficult do you think it would be to remove the bucket from the lift arms? Any suggestions of what to do / not to do during the process?

Thanks, Tim

Tim, when you take a bucket to a welding shop, you have to consider what you will do to load the bucket (Do you have a pickup?) and what you will do at the welding shop to get it out. Most likely the welder will have something to lift the bucket, but I'd do a courtesy check with him first before showing up with the bucket.

I noticed in your profile that you have a backhoe. After you remove the bucket, I'd use the backhoe to lift the bucket into the pickup truck bed. If the backhoe isn't available, you can rig a chain to your loader's arms to lift the bucket. It probably weighs less than 300 lb. If you put a couple of 2x6s or a partial sheet of plywood inside the pickup bed and lay the bucket on top, it will make it easier to slide it out once you get to the shop and may save you from scratching your pickup bed.

Maybe someone else has some more/different/better suggestions. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
