Ok.. I'm impressed.

The 570 is a good bailer.. My first choice for baling wouldn't be a 30hp tractor.. mostly due to weight. Perhaps a ford 800 ( 860 ) would be the smallest i'd want to bale with.

My guess is the extra weight of those 'heavy' framed tractors was a big benefit in this case..

Ask one of our local farmers to try/test out one of our tractors to bale square bales.

Yeah, I'm pretty impressed too.

I thought a baler would just shake tractors like that apart, but obviously I am wrong.

He did say that it had weights and looaded wheels, which would help but I still expect the tractor would be lurching a fair bit with each stroke of the plunger.

I think I would still prefer my heavy old ag tractors though ;)

Yeah, a bigger tractor is better up to a point. I have baled with the Mahindra 7520-10000#, the Kubota 3450-4000#, and the Kubota BX1500-1200#, all using an IH Model 37 sq baler. The 2 bigger tractors offer total flexibility of speed and PTO rpm and neither is the least uncomfortable while baling. The mini tractor works fine with dry hay and will bale in high range on level ground, as fast as the baler will pick it up. No surging if the bales are not set to pack quite hard. The problem is pulling power and weight on the hills. Must use low range and exercise care as the baler outweighs the tractor. My preference for baling would be the 3450 followed by the Mini. The big one is too heavy and compacts the soil unecessarily. I only use it when pulling a hay wagon behind the baler.

Do you have any pictures of the BX pulliing a baler, I would love to see them :D

I agree, bigger is not always better but I like to have a big tractor on the baler as it means you have more control and you can see easier because with a bigger tractor you sit higher so can see the bales coming out the back of the baler.

When we put the Massey baler on the 135 the tractor rocks. Every time the plunger goes down the tractor goes forward about 6" and then rolls back again.

Also, when driving along, the tractor goes forward in a kind rhythmical lurch. You get used to it after a while.

Ground compaction isn't normally to much of an issue for us.

I hear ya ..... the actual words I used when I asked him were ..... let's try one and see if it can hang on to it .

I feel loading the rear tires helped a lot and ........... almost loaded the front but thought that may be over kill.

You could tell you hooked to a baler but it was not rocking and rolling if you know what I mean?

The reciprocating parts dont cause much surge on the IH 37 unless the ram is working hard making tight bales. Surprisingly the mini tractor does not seem to surge any worse than the big ones when baling optimally dry moderately packed bales. I think there is something serendipitous going on in the balance of the HST relief valve and the towed load - - it certainly aint tractor mass keeping it smooth. I believe when pulling in hi range the little HST is near bleed pressure and the relief is damping the surges by going in and out of bleed mode in time with the surges. A bigger HST would act more like a gear tractor and experience greater varying loads on the drive train contributing to a more harsh surge. I havent tried tight bales with it, but seeing as how working with it following my wife with the hayrake is so painless, I will probably use it for this a lot more and may see some tight baling yet.

Oh yeah - Grrr it is hard to see the bales youre dropping from the low seat. When I 1st started down a row I had the little engine revved too high cuz I figured I needed the power. It went down the row great but it laid down 4 out of 5 loose bales. When I went back to check em the good one popped its knots. I listened to the baler - it was singing. Turned the throttle down a bit and everything was OK.
