I borrowed the tractor from a friend a few weeks ago, tractor is in good shape 190 hrs on it, used it to move some dirt into garden, tractor had been hardly used at his house for last 3 years. The tractor preformed fine for 2 hrs and job was complete. Upon using it next I loaded dirt into front loader and when attempting to reverse, tractor would not move when clutch was let out. Shifted back into neutral then reverse again, clutch was let out tractor did not move, then with clutch out, tractor suddenly starts to move in reverse. Was able to shift it back into 1st gear and it went 20 ft and stopped. Then would not move at all, upon check transmission fluid, noticed it was critically low , and it took 4 gallons of fluid. Also noticed that 2wd/4wd shifted was just hanging and roll pin was out 3/4 of the way, tapped pin in and now it seems to click in 2wd but it very hard to shift into 4wd. Attempted to move tractor for 2 days following this, shifting forward, reverse, 2wd/4wd, high and low gears(no luck). Then on the 3rd day, was able to get the tractor to slightly move when letting out clutch in low 1st gear, after 10 minutes of trying, tractor starts moving in reverse and was able to drive it to the driveway. At this time was able to move slightly in low 1st and 2nd, but will not move in high gear at all. Went out this morning it will not move at all again, in any gear. The tractor had no slipping of the clutch or grinding when it was working. So my question is what do you think this is. I have talked to a few people and they seem to think that it should not be the clutch that just goes all of a sudden, and I wonder if it could be stuck between 2wd/4wd and that is why it is not moving when clutch is let out. Like I said I am borrowing this tractor, I may buy it from the friend, but also do not want to dump 1000's of $ into it and give it back.. let me know what you guys think. fyi, All other hydro's work on front loader and backhoe, and engine runs fine.
