( The ps and 3ph do not have QCs. If a QC to the fel were bad I should still have use of the 3ph and ps right? When I disconnected the fel I still had no ps or 3ph. Whatever the problem was it went away overnight but I feel it will likely come back at a bad time. )
The power steering and the 3PH DO have a Quick Connect if you are using one to connect the FEL. ALL the fluid flow in a 284's system comes out of the single hydraulic pump. It flows to a mated QC pair then up to the FEL then back thru another mated QC pair then to the diverter valve. From there it can go 2 different directions. If you are using the steering, the diverter valve sends some of the flow to the steering rotary valve and on to the steering cylinder. The return from the steering flows thru the pipe by your left foot when seated and back to the resovoir. The majority of the flow from the diverter valve flows thru the pipe by your right foot and goes to the 3PH control valve and from there unrestricted into the resovoir unless lifting the 3PH.
Even with the FEL bypassed, the flow goes thru the MATED QC halvs on the tractor lines. The attached drawing shows the hydraulics with the FEL bypassed but with the FEl connected the flow would be up and back thru the 2 QC pairs at the top of the pic. If the half of the QC that is connected to the line comming from the pump were the problem, it could also be a problem when connected to the line that goes to the diverter valve.
