Each plug you remove should have a copper sealing washer attached. Often they stay in the hole. So make sure you have all 3 washers out before installing your new plugs. And install a new set of three, don't just replace the bad pair

Also with these things they tend to bind up from carbon buildup so you may need to work them back & forth a bunch to get them loose and spray in some penetrate if they dont come out right away.

Others told/warned you about the copper washers they can be a pain in the BUT you can get them out if careful.

Watch for garbage around them use some compressed air to blow out rust & debris from around them.

Be sure to clean up the contact points on the Copper Bus Bar and use a bit of Elec Grease on the contact points when going back together. Also as mentioned replace them all as a set, they come with NEW copper washers and be sure to keep an eye on them, I lost one and had to use one of the NEW non-fitting ones I had.

I wonder if glow plugs would be easier to remove if the engine were to be thoroughly warm first.

I think so, yes. Perhaps I can warm up the place around the glow plugs with a warm airblower? A good idea??
