2003 Jinma 184, has anyone added an exteral hydraulic filter setup. I was told that since my only had an approimately 1" rubber return line there is not path to add one. The filter inside the tank is just an empty cage, no brass filter screens. Thanks

You should be able to buy a replacement pickup screen assembly from one of the online dealers.
With enough money and adapters anything is possible.
Suction side filter is more prone to letting in dirt or air thought a leak.
Pressure side filter is more prone to leaks and need better seals, connections and filters.
Either one should probably be installed as close to the tank as possible.

Personally I would likely install a suction side setup. You ma have to replace all the hard line pipe from the tank to the pump but as long as you use a hose that is rated for suction, it should work. As for size of hose, on suction when in doubt, always go up one size for better flow rate.

Isn't there a return filter somewhere? Most all systems have those.
Very few SCUT & CUT have return line filtration. Some like my Brandon have a suction of inlet filter for the pump and a filter for the charge pump flow which is a low pressure (less than 100 PSI) spin on. With a 3 point hitch there is no place to install a return filter with exception of tank line from front loader valve and that only sees flow when loader is moving.
