Dunno what part of Texas you are in, but that slab needed interior beams.

Next time will be perfect :)

Thanks for the input. The soil on my property is 99% sandy loam. My building contractor is Athens Steel, a local steel building contractor. I chose them because I know freinds and customers who have their buildings with no problems. And they are a turn key contractor. I was tempted to go with a 6" pour but was told that it was not needed for the weight I was going to put on it. The flatwork paving contractor who will be doing my flatwork, driveway and pads said the same thing. I'm with you, I have always gone the HD route but at $55,000.00 and more invested in this project it wasen't a hard sell on the contractors part for me to trust their judgement, since I know both's reputation.

Sorry for curmudgeon post but I make a good living doing light construction engineering.

Not to worry if it is just an outbuilding. But ALL construction standards in the east half of the state put rib stiffeners (interior beams) at 12' to 15' intervals. We also use vapor barriers, which they didn't.

The settlement morphology to be aware of is concave subsidence (lower floor at the interior), esp. with loamy fill (which that looks like). May take a decade to show up.

No problem rdsaustintx I appreciate the input. I think we got good compaction and the up-side to being 55 years old is you don't need a extended warrantee.
