I think it turns out that if you batter and fry anything, it usually turns out good:

kohlrabi
turnips
squash
green tomatoes
chicken hearts
chicken liver
chicken gizzards
etc.

Howdy,, y'all:D

I went out to the farm:rolleyes: after work to do some tomato pickins. Oh my, could not believe what I saw. There were tomatoes all over, ripe and abut to burst. I was on my hand and knees specially between the rows to pick the fruits. Darn critters got to many of them and I reckon they are already sick of it. I'm a nice guy and willing to share some with them but wished they ate one completely before they started the second or third one. I guess I have the same issue with my kids also. Found many half eaten tomatoes about 30 or so, but at a my present production rate it's just a drop in a bucket.

I formally declare my endeavor in " Gentelman Tomato Farming" a success if I may be bold enough to say so myself:D :D

JC
My second tomato harvest: at least 50-60 lbs. all the neighbors got some including folks at work.

This guy weighed about 2 lbs or so. We’ll have him tonight.

Dinner salad with my tomatoes, cucumber and basil.

Ray,

I've got about 95 plants total. I bought them from local Ace hardware store. I bought all my plants when they had a brand new shipment. I went for the smallest and best looking plants in 4 in one container type. I buried them up to their necks as deep as I could. I got all the varieties they had such as early girl, better boy or girl..can't remember, several Roma varieties, celebrity,Rutgers , some yellow variety and beefsteaks. Celebrities , Rutgers and beefsteaks were prolific with plenty of yield. I had Cherry sweet one hundred that they were all broken due heavy Kansas wind storm but continued to give me plenty of fruit with broken but not severed main stem. I think I have pics early on here that shows my work from the start to now. Using heavy weed barrier saved my hide as I had no weeding to do so far. By the way, I did not use any chemical fertilizer or herbicide at all. although the seed may not be organic but the rest is as organic as i can make it. I had some Caterpillar damage and mold issue but they may total less than %20 of my total production. I only watered my tomato patch once when I transplanted them but mother nature was very kind to me this year.

Isn't it amazing how you yearn for fresh tomatoes all winter and spring, then you look around one day and they are everywhere? :D

We are still making "tons" of tomatoes too. I'm eating them and cantaloupe for two meals a day. I haven't grown tired of them yet. Your salad makes me hungry and I just finished my tomato lunch.:)
