JIC 37 degree seals

   / JIC 37 degree seals #2
The hydraulic shop I go to has them, but I have never used them. And by the look of the dust on the packages not many people who go there use them either.

I have used allot of the JIC fittings and have not had a leak yet. Maybe if you had a fitting that got connected and disconnected frequently, they may be of value as the sealing surfaces of the fittings would get scored over time.

The 37 degree fittings are for aircraft hydraulics. that is why the dust on the packages. They did not want people to mix aircraft and standard run-of-the-mill hardware so they made a special (read expensive) fitting just for airplanes. They will work the same just will not be compatible with most. I suppose that if you had a good supply of the aluminum fittings that you could be consistent , but connecting hoses and everything--I am sure the end result would be more.

They may have other applications too, but that is all that you are supposed to use in aircraft--at least that is what they taught when I got my A&P.
