I've posted about this problem last year and after re-installing my FEL for this spring it's still prevalent (took the front mount blower off for the winter and we get a foot of snow 2 days later.....ahem)

On my B3030, my FEL is jerky through out the dump cycle, regardless of engine speed. It starts happening after about 10 minutes of use. All other motions are smooth, including curl. I've checked for leaks and checked Hydro fluid and nothing seems to be binding. I'm using Super UDT fluid. Also, if I go all the way to the right, past the indent, it then dumps smooth, but it sounds like it's hissing (not sure if this "hissing" is connected to the jerky motion, or is this normal?)

Any ideas on what's causing this?

(I should mention, I have a 4-in-1 bucket and the 3rd function is controlled via a button on the joystick. When you push the button and move the stick left or right, it opens and closes the bucket. This third function also controls my chute deflector height on my snowblower)

Sounds like it is sucking air. Take out a little of the hydraulic fluid after you have used it a little while to see if there is air bubbles in it.

When you move the lever past the detent position to dump you have engaged the regen function in the valve. If you have hissing at this position then the valve may not be working correctly. If this is the case then it's time to go see the dealer.

For an explanation on regen look HERE.

thanks guys,

I'll check for air bubbles in the fluid this weekend.

I do have a "basic" understanding of of the regen function. What's weird is my set-up worked perfectly when operating all three functions on my snowblower this winter. No hiss and no jerky motion that I could detect (mind you, if it was "hissing" I may not have been able to hear it over the sound of the blower). I wonder why it doesn't jerk or hiss when it's cold, if the valve is defective, would it not misbehave at any temperature? Is there a way of checking this valve myself? I really don't want to call my dealer (again) if I don't have to.

For some reason I really feel that my problem is connected to my third function (you can't see the button in the picture, but it's on the back) Or are there any other ideas on what could be causing this?

What controls flow to the third function?

A diverter?

Have your checked connections and verified that the diverter is working correctly?

MadReferee,

I'm definately not a hydraulic expert, hope I can explain my setup. There are two small black "boxes" connected underneath the FEL Joystick control. They have a 3/4" nut on the end of each with a label specifiying max torque, plus a 12volt power lead running into them. These are what diverts flow from my curl/dump cycle to my open and close cycle.

All connections appear to be fine, and the diverter is working because I can open and close the bucket.

When I saw the subject or your post I didn't see the second s in hiss and I thought someone dug up your driveway or something. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That's funny.

Truth be told, on more than one occasion my girlfriend has reffered to me as "the jerk with the FEL"

I read it the same way and thought of Steve Martin on a tractor terrorizing an outdoor black tie affair (perhaps a wedding) with his FEL. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Marty I agree with JerryG. check suction side to pump from loader. I'm concerned with the fact it gets worse with heat which indicates a restiction somewhere in that circuit. A spool hanging up inside your control valve will create the hissing effect. Every time I take my loader off my L series and reinstall it I never completely get the air out of the system until several cycles of the actuators ( cylinders ). When an operator tells me he has an erratic actuator I always suspect early "cracking" of the pressure relief valve. I know it's not funny to you but I did get a chuckle out of your post. Not because of your problem but the way you posted the phenomenon. Ob1...

hi guys,

Had a chance to use my FEL this weekend. Of course, it worked perfectly all weekend - until the last hour. Back came the jerky dump cycle, and the hiss (note the two ss's in "hiss" guys!). Speaking of "hissing", I should clarify. It sounds more like a buzzing sound, or a flapping sound (hard to describe). But it's not the normal sound like when you reach the end of travel of the dump or curl and hold it, you hear a slight hiss. It's definately a different sound.

I don't have the tools to check the suction side of the pump, I'd have to call the dealer on that. Also, I don't notice any air bubbles in the hydro fluid. But I do agree, it sounds like air in the system. But I'm still not ruling out my diverter (I've attached a picture of my setup).

And lastly, I do have a persistant leak on the top fitting of the right hand cylinder that lifts the entire loader, could this be the problem? Even though it's not one of the curl cylinders? It appears to be a bad weld where the female fitting is attached to the cylinder. (I do have a MIG welder, but should I be concerned with heat and the seals?)

Sorry for so many questions, but I appreciate the help.

One more pic of the diverter.
