Every time I sell something fast and replace it with something slow I gain points with the Mrs. She does worry about my tractor though. I think she would like the UTV, even more if I sold something fast to get it.

Secondly, I think you need to stop publishing pictures of the tractor on 3 wheels where she can see them.

I like the KTM, I'd like the 350 with EFI and a set of street tires/rims please. They are so nimble. Justify the cost? Hardly.

My definition of financial justification is that benefits of the purchase exceed the costs.

The link provided by MoKelly discusses the evaluation of a capital investment (acquisition of a durable asset that provides services over time) by a firm. Capital budgeting techniques take account of the timing and amount of the benefits over time. An investment that has a positive net present value (present value of after-tax cash flows less acquisition cost) will increase the value of the firm (and the wealth of its owners).

I suspect than many (most?) folks who purchase UTVs are not doing so as part of a business enterprise. That doesn't mean that they are irrational. They presumably perceive the benefits (mainly non-pecuniary) of their purchases exceed their costs.
