I run out of fuel with half a tank showing on gauge. Some time ago I checked the sender unit per repair manual and everthing checked okay. Put it back together and just been fueling up on a very regular basis (like 2 gal. at a time) ever since. I just looked at picture again of tank in manual and it shows a screen on the end of the pickup line. My thinking is that the screen may be plugged on lower end and hence my problem. Kinda wishing I'd have checked when in there before. Is this possibly the problem? Should I tear into the tank and check the screen or forget it and keep a jug of fuel handy. Any ideas? Maybe something else?

My guess is that the screen and the piece of hose it attaches to has fallen off. I have seen this happen several times. If you pull the sending unit out, you will need to go fishing in the bottom of the tank to find the screen and hose. They are # 21 & # 20 in attached picture.
