My dealer can't get a global carrier for 30 days. I am getting a 5065e with 553 loader. I may one day get a grapple in addition to the 73 inch bucket. Is the 500 carrier inferior to the global such that I should wait an extra month? Appreciate any feedback on the 2 carriers

Have global on a 6430 Premium / 673 Loader getting the global carrier latch to pull it is more difficult to do than walking around the attachment and removing 2 linch pins on a JD 5420 / 541 Loader. Sometimes the Global Carrier Latch will go back in if you didn't pull it out all the way and it seems to happen almost every time I get back into the seat..

I like the JD 500 carrier more than a global. But the JD 600 sucks, so global is a better option than a JD 600. But JD 500 is better than a global in my book. Both loaders require getting off and on 2 times.

JD 500 Operation
1. Remove linch pins
2. Get back on and put attachment down
3. Pick up attachment and get off and put the linch pins back on.

Global Carrier Operation
1. Get off and pull latch with a good amount of effort.
2. Get back on and put attachment on, and grab the second one
3. Get off and use your foot to push down and in on the carrier latch and it will go back in.

Also the Global Carrier system is easy to get dirty and possibly damaged if your doing any digging or back filling with the bucket it will easily get dirt trapped into the mid section of the Carrier Latch system

Ahhh Haaa!!! I knew it.... just looking at the Global Carrier - I knew it would "gunk" up with mud, dirt, and or snow and ice - and stick!! I really like the top bar support as it looks to be very, very stout. But, that spring loaded full-length locking pin along the bottom of the carrier looked to be a likely "trouble" area.

You confirmed that!

That's why I stayed with the Skid-steer carrier on my 563SL.

You have to only get off the tractor 1 time to latch the bucket. Twice if you're switching from one implement to another.

Yeah, the GC is a beach. But I would rather have a GC than a JD600 style. Those are worse. Problem is with the GC that it wobbles like its drunk or something if you dump and curl really quickly to clean out the bucket

Yes, the top bar is beefy. But the bottom bar is flimsy!

I really like the global carrier, yes it does get dirt bunched up into it but that has never stopped it from closing or opening. All I do is pull the latch (mine doesn't seem too hard to pull.) put the bucket on the ground and it comes off, I drive to my forks or blade and hook the top part in and curl back and it automatically closes the latch locking it in place.
The only time I leave my seat is to open the latch to un hook and to hook/un hook the hydraulics.

I don't like the global carrier at all, not sure why JD is pushing it so hard when everyone else has gone to skid steer quick attach. For a 553 loader I'd go skid steer as my first option, with the JD 500 series carrier as second option. The global carrier is a PITA in my opinion and there aren't many attachments that fit it.

The thing no one has mentioned so far, is your choice of carrier can limit your ability to purchase new / used equipment. For example, when I was looking for a Front Blade the vast majority available were with SS carrier.

THe global carier is more robust and used successfully on heavier larger equipment than the SSQA. IMHO global is easier and more forgiving to align and couple attachments than the SSQA or and proprietary Deere coupler I have used (may be my prefeerence only). Regarding Deere's affinity for proprietary design couplers, the only benefit is to Deere itself. Heck, attachments aren't even interchangeable between loader series. From a user standpoint, it's just plain stupid.

I don't know if I'd say the global carrier is more robust, SSQA can be plenty strong if designed right. Bobcat is using it on their T870 CTL which is 100hp, weighs almost 13,000lbs and an operating capacity over 5,000lbs. Until you get into the BIG row crop tractors none of them are going to put nearly as much strain on the coupler/attachment as a larger CTL or SS.

That said, I agree the SSQA isn't the easiest to hook up on larger tractors (like our M9540). With almost no visibility of the coupler from the cab your kinda fishin in the dark trying to get both sides lined up. The huge number of attachments is why I like it and we can share attachments between the tractors and skid steer.

John Deere has adapters so you can use SS attachments on global carriers
