Finally got around to replacing the loose inner tie rods on the 4300. When i say loose, i mean they had about 3/16" axial play. I would watch the tires wobble in and out while driving straight. I checked with JD, and they wanted $100+ per tie rod end. Did some research and found that the Moog EV398 had the same ID threads on the cylinder end. And the outer rod is 14mm OD so there is plenty of stock to turn down to .490 diameter for the 1/2-20 threads. Used generic boots since these joints don't come with any. Spent a total of $50 and a couple hours time to replace both inner tie rods. There are now aftermarket replacements showing up on eBay for $64 ea. Those were not available last year when i purchased the Moog joints. Ironically, the outer joints are fine, just need new boots. Perhaps the outers were replaced sometime in the past.
FYI, the outer joint is a Moog ES176. It needs to be drilled and tapped 1/2"-20. You can also purchase an aftermarket LVU14549 for as little as $45.
