JD3320 Axle anti freeze leak

Hi,
Ok, Tractors are new to me but this was even a surprise. I must have driven over a rock with the front wheel on my 3320. There is a cup (looks like what would go overe wheel bearings to protect them however this is aomewhat horizontal) of some kind under the end of the axle right behind the wheel at the bottom. There is green fluid leaking (again the cup is dented whereas I think I ran over a rock) from this cup, I can only say this appears to be antifreeze. First question is what is this cup, if it is just a cover to protect them it is not what is leaking and this could be a warrenty issue, however if it is what is leaking then I may own it. Second, is this just antifreeze in there? Not sure why it is not gear oil but before I top it off so I can run it I want to make **** sure. Please advise.

you might want to try calling your dealer. The front axle does NOT have antifreeze in it.

Is your radiator leaking and dripping down the tractor?

I know it seems rediculous, like if you cut your hand and macaroni came out but I tell ya, it sure as heck seems like it is coming from there and not tracking down from somewhere else. I need to get in deeper and see what I can see but I had a rag over it and had nothing show up but stul drip below. It has to be an illusion I know but before I went nuts I thought I would run it by the experts out here.

Ok I'm just tossing this out...Green Slime in the tires looks like antifreeze.

Here's another 'IF' suggestion.

You can get most petro fluids tinted to whatever color the manufacturer wants.. any possibility it has some sort of green tinted gear oil.. or UTF fluid?

Next if.. is this unit 4wd ( I think it is ), and is that lower cup covering a bearing or perhaps a control arm / tie rod? Any chance the grease is green and you are seeing the 'oil' seperated out of the grease dripping from the damaged metal 'cup' you refer to?

Any pics of that area.. or better yet.. an expanded aprts diagram?

80W-90 definately has a greenish tint in the sunlight.

Is the oil clear, or is it cloudy?

Hello again,
Ok here are the pics. It is definately oil and it is very green. Now that I have a bit of it I can see the thickness. Any how, with little difficulty I pryed the cover off that protects the gears. I am going to JD to get a new one tommorow but an unsure if it just gets banged in with a rubber mallet and what to seal it with. There did not appear to be any type of RTV or anything which seems odd to me. ANyhow, any thoughts would be great

That dent looks like it was put there jacking it up, there are no movement scratches on the dented cup? and what does this green stuff feel like rubbing it in your fingers? That will tell you lots and if you did not put dent there, somebody that jacked up did
EDIT!! I enlarged picture and I do see a big scratch on the lower unit housing and here is a closer picture for all of you

80W-90 definately has a greenish tint in the sunlight.

I agree- it looks just a hair greener than normal 90 weight. Smell it, 90 weight has a distinctive "sour" smell. Touch it and then try to rinse it off with water- antifreeze would rinse off, gear oil will not.

It looks like it might be a regular steel and rubber oil seal. Just a snug fit, driven in with a few light hammer blows.
