Hi all,

This post is somewhat in response to Iowa2210's problem with his MFWD axle. Although he only had 20 hours on his machine and hadn't used his in the winter, I was talking to another poster and 2210 owner, and he urged me to change my axle fluid at 100 hrs. due to the fact that I operate it in the winter. Not that anything gets in the axle, but that the temperature differences cause condensation to build up. Sure enough, when I changed it last weekend, there was enough water in the gear oil to make me glad I did. Maybe the rest of you 2210 owners might want to do the same; 2.6 qts. of gear oil as insurance against potential problems seems like good insurance. The owner's manual calls for the oil to be changed at 500 hrs, but I wouldn't wait. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

This is very good advice, and not just for 2210 owners. 500 hours could be 10 years for some of us /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
I think JD and other manufacturers should give these intervals in a time/hours format like autos.
It should read 2years/500hrs, witchever comes first.

Great post!

Excellent tip, thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What brand and weight of lube did you use?

PDe,

I stick to Deere lubricants and filters, and went with the GL-5 oil the dealer recommended. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

<font color="green">Changed the front axle oil in my 2210 at 200 hours/2.5 years and was glad I did when I saw the milky white tell-tale sign that there was some water mixed in with the oil.

Don't get me wrong, there wasn't a whole lot of water present but enough to change the appearance of the oil.

That was my experience too. I'm going to change this every 100 hrs. from now on. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
