I've got a friend looking at a 64 or 65 JD 2010. What I've read about this particular model isn't particularly encouraging, but if anyone out there has either first hand experience or "reliable" hearsay I wouldn't mind hearing it. Thanx.

My dad bought a new 2010 gas when I was a teenager. All we had up to then was an IH- H and a JD 40, so to me this was something! H pulled 2 14" plows, 2010 pulled 3. We plowed 110 ac. bottom land. First year 2010 pulled in 5th gear, and every year after went down a gear but it was doing most of all the other work too. Such as powering the 1 row harvester, corn picker, hay baler, ect. So I guess it did a lot of work before first overhual. I don't remember any other trouble with it. It was also a good hill climber! lol Aaron

There's an old saying among JD technicians. "You can't tear up a good 2010 and you can't repair a bad one". 2010 diesel engines gave a lot more trouble than the gasoline engines. The disk brakes and hyd systems were their weak points even when they were NEW.

Back in 1985 I bought a 2010 diesel, I thought since I was doing a lot of haying at the time I'd save a little fuel. Took me about 2 weeks to hate it, had to hold the glow plugs for 3 minutes to start it - in the summer!

like tx jim says, the 10 series tractors from the 60's earned thier poor reputation rightfully so. Some where good, some where bad. I don't think it was noticed as much until the 20 series came out since they where such a big improvement over the 10 series.
