JD versus non JD Implements

Every true farmer I meet tells me to stay away from JD implements. I know we have posted this on the forum before. But I am now going from "It doesn't really matter having JD implements on a JD" to "JD implements are much more expensive and of poorer quality than other makes."

Any thoughts?

If you know me... I'm not one for a "tit for a tat"...

But... a true farmer... would not make that statement... whether it's John Deere, Massey Ferguson, Ford, International... or [You fill in the blanks]...

Contrary to what you may believe... many Tractor manufacturers only "market" their implements with their brand name/logo stamped on it... many are made by third party companies...

III, I still don't know what you think of JD implements? Do you have a view? Or do you just dislike farmers that are prone to sweeping generalizations?

Please note, I am below beginner amongst you titans of the land.

Could you be more specific on a particular type of implement...

In general, I find a number of John Deere implements to be on the pricier side...

I'm color blind when it comes to tractors and implements... I want something that will do the job... I'm like most people... I want the most "bang for the almighty buck"... It doesn't matter what color the implement is... I'm not into fashion and pretty... I want results...

I guess over the years, you determine the key players on certain implements and go with them... for me results and durability are at the top of my list...

I want to buy a great implement once... not a bargain/priced implement three times over...

Well first of all what do you mean by JD implements? If you are talking about all JD implements then I, like John, have an extremely hard time believing that any farmer would say stay away from John Deere. Most of the "real" farmers live and die John Deere green. In fact on alot of things JD makes some of the best equipment out there, hands down. On other things they don't like some of their mowers. But all things aside JD is one of the best out there, there's no denying that. There are others out there as well that are good but JD is certainly not lacking in the implement dept.

JD has some of the best headers on the market and you will see them on a lot of Case combines because of how good they are. John Deeres planters are second to Kinze. I do not know of anyone who uses their disk but their earlier ones were bad and left a lot of ridges in the fields but I think they are better now. Most of JD's equipment for larger tractors rates towards to top and only Case-IH farmers would say to stay away from it. As far as implements for compacts I would have no clue about their quality as I have never owned any of them or even used them. I know Woods makes some of their equipment now and Woods is a good company and I do use some of their products with no problems. When you ask farmers about colored equipment make sure you look in their barn first as there are three different types of farmers out there, Red Farmers, Green Farmers and Rainbow farmers. You want to talk to the rainbow farmers as they have very little brand loyalty and buy on quality and dealer service so they can give you better answers. As far as compact tractors and their implements most farmers would never have used one to really be of help and your best bet is boards like this one to find out how well these implements really are. According to John Deere Corp...

"Actually there is no documentation to support the answer. We believe it may have happened this way:

...Some of the early plows made in our factories were green, but not of the bright green color that you see on the equipment today. The yellow & green tractor we think has evolved from the work the tractor was intended for, corn planting. The green for the corn stock as it grows and yellow for the ear of corn, hence the green tractor with yellow wheels..."

And besides that it is just down right pretty! Much prettier color than my orange tractor. Personal opinion on COLOR, I like green.

Couldnt of said it better John. Most of the advice I get is from where I purchase all my implements from. They know what tractor I have, They know exactly what will fit, and they know that Im willing to pay a decient price for good equipment.

John, In your unending file cabinet of information, can you tell me what color the first JD tractors was painted?

Why is JD painted green? So they can hide in the grass when Kubotas(can be any other tractor of your choice) goes by.

This is no judgement on JD, just a joke I have heard since I was just a little guy.
