I suggest you call the Dealer he bought the tractor from. The 4520 is built in the USA, but that doesn't mean they use American sizes.
I wish I could be more help, but my 790 is Japanese built and uses all metric sizes.
Well, I will help...get your hubby a quality set of sockets (no $9.99 Harbor Freight specials). If you really love him, get him a decent air compressor (with enough capacity to run an impact wrench).

Both. would be best, those were made in a lot of places and individual components are likely metric. Ex. hydraulic pump. Sheet metal and attachments are likely standard.
At least metric

If you love your husband don't buy him CHEAP tools. They will break and slip off bolts. Get him well made (expensive) tools especially for tractors.

I hate it everytime I use a cheap tool.

While I haven't done much, everything I have done has been metric...

OK let me really answer the question for you. 1st off Craftsman tools will be fine. They are a decent tool with a lifetime guarantee and will not break the bank. They are also easy to replace. I my experience you need both metric and American standard. There is nothing built in one place anymore so both standards show up on everything these days. Now the next question is 1/2 inch drive or 3/8 drive. I have to say I use my 3/8 drive sets a lot more than my 1/2 drive but when you need a 1/2 inch drive you need it. But then if it was all I had I would want a 3/8 drive set. But then a back-hoe would be assume too. I hope this helps

She is already making the tractor payments, we can't expect her to buy the backhoe! I think a set of 3/8 drive, metric and inch sockets would be nice, but the big question is, does he already have it? If my dear wife bought me a set, I would ask her if she had lost her marbles, as I probably have at least 3 sets of each scattered between the house and the garage. (I used to have a job that required a set at work, along with needing a set at home)
Get somebody to inspect his toolbox and see what he needs first!
