JD LX6 brush hog

I broke the top beveled gear in my LX6 brush hog. Any one know where I can buy just the gear without buying the complete gearbox? JD says I have to buy the complete gearbox,(they don't show the gear by its self). Any one know a better place to buy the whole box($430. from John Deere)? Thanks.

I tried to buy a part for an electric/hydraulic dump mechanism on an early model gator once. One JD dealer said I had to buy the entire unit, another sold me the individual part that I needed. You might try several dealers for the part before buying a whole gearbox.
