JD GX 345 Alternator/Generator

Was curious to know if a bad alternator or generator would affect the deck engaging.

can you elaborate a little more about your problem dont think it would directly affect the deck but if it has any electrical sources that powers up down or blade movement maybe so and welcome to tractor by net

It does have a electric clutch doesn't it? If so then sure the charging can affect deck engagement. I have a old 240 with electric clutch that had a engine swap to a twin cylinder B&S and the engine came from a unit that had a manual deck engagement, no electric clutch, and the alternator was only 1 amp and the deck would start disengaging a half hour into mowing (until battery drained down). I had to replace the stator to a 10 amp all is well now. bjr
