Made the trip to Hayhurst today.
Using Rt.50 it was 45 miles,
I came back the shortest way and that was 37 miles.

I didn't say it was 30 miles... I said ABOUT 30 miles!
But the speed limit is 65 to 70 most of the trip... I don't think you can get up that fast if you went back on route 16.

I always liked the Hayhurst people,I thought they were pretty much down to Earth country people.

18 miles from here to St. Marys 12 miles across 16 to old route 50 then 7 miles up it to Hayhurst.
Don't matter about the miles. We had A great fun trip on an extremely beautify day and I got to do a lot of reminiscing from my teen years of nearly 45 years ago. Was able to locate where my buddy lived back then just outside of West Union who I visited very often back then. Hadn't been to that House for over 43 years. didn't even know if it was still stranding. Been wanting to look the place up for all those years- Hayhurst and tractors was the perfect excuse.
I don't know about that: Back in the late 50s I saw 80 & 90 across it except for 110 on the straight stretches what few there are. The guy had a 1958 Ambassador and that thing would really fly. Wildest scariest ride I ever took.
Back in that same time period A fellow took me a tour down rt. 50 clear through Pennsboro doing 110 in a 1957 Pontiac station wagon. You could hear the rivets grinding the drums when he touched the brakes.
Back In the late 50s and early 60s West Union and Pennsboro were like a second home to me as I paled around a bunch with a buddy who lived in West Union.
We hit every bar and played shuffle board for hours at a time in all of them many a time.

1*Yes but I didn't get to see everything I went there to look at.
2*Up in there is about as country as you can get.

Went to Hay Hurst -wanted to look at JD and NH Garden Tractors.
The reason I chose them is because they are a dealer for both brands.
Though If I went there I could see both brands in one place thus killing 2 birds with one stone. They didn't have or carry The NH g/t so now I have to run to another dealer anyhow.

When I was shopping for my 5205, I got some good prices and friendly service from the Pennsboro JD dealer. The guys up in Fairmont were duds. I ended up dealing with Carmichael's.

A little off message, but somewhat appropriate. Six weeks ago, I went to the John Deere dealer that I purchased my current tractor from, and wanted to get a price on a 4000 series cab tractor. Now I know I have a trade, but 6 weeks later I haven't heard a thing. Visited Quarles Supply (Kubota dealer 75 miles away) in Boliver Missouri, and it was like going to Disneyland. He had every tractor and implement imaginable, let me drive 4 tractors, and I came away with a price. John Deere dealers DONT HAVE TO SELL! The customer has to kiss their backside to get anything. I really wanted a Deere.

My JD dealer is no saint but the experience that you had, was mine at Kubota. The salesman had no interest in my needs, couldn't describe the differences between 00 and 30 series [I still don't know] and offered high prices compared to NH and the info here. Funny thing is, in my area orange tractors are everywhere.

I suppose the bottom line is that you have a relationship with your dealer, and sometimes it is more like a personal one than a business one.

I sure did.
We really played a lot of it back then.Got so good at it that we seldom if ever got beat.
My brother played at our local Moose Lodge turnments .He had to drop out recently due to health issues.

I used to play a lot as a teenager near my home at the local watering hole near Lubeck,a bunch of good old country boys and men would come in and we had some good tournaments. Get the old pill bottle out with the numbered pills and take a numbered pill and the 2 closest numbers were on a team. The ole watering hole is gone ( years ago) I have looked at the tables on ebay and since I do not drink or go out anymore I have thought about buying one for the basement. I have not played since the 1970's.....What a hoot.....ahh the memories....

I listen to family members about how people used to get together once a week and play horse shoes (or some similiar game). I grew up having bean supper every Sat. night at my Gram's house. Talk about things changing. No more gatherings unless it is a "family reunion". I'd like my Son and Daughter to grow up having weekly get togethers. Some things are more important than work. Oh well, I guess I have to start making memories, not thinking about mine! haha

The old traditions are nice....having family get togethers does not happen like they use to around here....it seems everyone is living a fast life this day and age...

Hayhurst is a great dealership....gotta like the people and the service.

I have never heard anything bad about Hayhurst equipment.

2 dealers in my area closed shop also. One 15 minutes away the second 30. One of them stated that deere would not renew thier dealership contract unless they ramped theirs sales to a millon dollars per year and add 2 outside sales men to help drive those sales. I was disapointed, these are two small shops been in business for +20 years. Both provided great tech support. Closet dealer now is 1 hour away and will not give any mechancal advice.

I see even though your two local John Deere dealerships have closed, there's a much larger dealer coming soon...
Bridgeport Equipment will be opening over on route 7 where Wolohan Lumber used to be... they will be employing 40 people!
