This type of situation may already have been posted but as I had not seen it I thought I would share it with the JD owners. We were talking tractors at work and one of the guys shared this story with me. Neighbor he helps out occasionally bought a new JD cab model ag tractor. Was working in the field and it just died. Had power, would not turn over. They could not figure out what was wrong. Dealer sent out mechanic, worked on it 2 days, could not diagnose the problem. Factory sent out rep to work on it, spent 1 and 1/2 days, gets it to fire right up. All he had to do was change the cab light bulb. Seems the new safety interlock system that will not let you start the tractor with the door open uses the light circuit as a sensor. After you start the tractor you can open the door and it will keep running. The bulb element broke while operating in the field. Even though it was not on when the bulb went out, it killed the motor. It seems the interlock system checks continuity continuously through the circuits and when it detected a fault it kills the motor. Rep told them it was a design problem and he had never seen it happen before. Just FYI, maybe it could spare someone some frustration.

Sounds strange I have many cabbed new Ag JD tractors and I can start them up with the door open. :confused3:

Yep, I have started plenty of tractors with the door open while boosting them when flat... Some of these safety devices are getting ridiculous!
