3-Point Hitch JD 955 Hydrolics

Just got an old JD 955 4WD and love it. But I have a few questions about it.

When pushing dirt back my blade climbs over the top. Does this unit put downward pressure when I put the blade down or does it rely solely on the weight of the blade?

What is the water valve looking knob that sits on the left side under drivers seat do?

Welcome.
No down pressure, weight of implement is all that holds it down.
Knob adjust the rate the 3pt drops. So if you had a real light 1 row plow or something you might adjust it to drop faster. If you had a heavy brush cutter you would have to screw it in to keep it from falling so fast when you lower the rockshaft lever to lower the 3pt hitch.

As dusty3030 stated very few tractors have down pressure on the 3 pt. Belarus is one brand that has down pressure.
