the fel on my jd 870 operates very slow both opening/closing and lifting/lowering need help trouble shooting and testing.

This is what you have.
Hydraulics:
Type: open center
Capacity: 5.5 gal [20.8 L]
Pressure: 2250 psi [155.1 bar]
Valves: 2
Pump flow: 8.1 gpm [30.7 lpm]
If the fluid is cold, it will be slow.
If it still slow when the fluid is warm, then check the pressure relief.
It will be hard to know pump flow unless you do a pressure and flow test of have someone do it.
Check fluid levels.
Check all filters and sump screen if your tractor has them.

thank you for your help. I will start checking filters and screen. I am going to buy pressure gauge and see about obtaining flow meter. I forgot to say that bucket lift bleeds down very fast I have to keep using the control lever to keep the bucket up while moving. do you know what fittings I will need for the pressure gauge connections.

If the loader is lowering that quickly then you probably have fluid leaking past the cylinder seals... that in itself will make it slow. The other possibility is the valve, but the cylinder is more likely.
My 1070 would hardly lift the empty bucket, (partially) took apart the valve and found that a plug had fallen out. The plug was internal to the valve to bypass for certain options.

It would depend on the gauge size, and the QD or the tee fitting.
You can make a portable tested or install the gauge in a tee in the IN port of the loader valve . This way, you can check out anything hyd on the tractor.
The QD plug in only checks what you plug into.
Your loader drift down could be caused by cyl seals or worn spool valve.
