JD 820 Utility Tractor Engine problem

Have:
1970 vintage JD 820 utility tractor
Problem:
Spun a connecting rod bearing
Damage to the crankshaft and cylinder 1 connecting rod. I believe everything else is ok but just needs cleaning.
I can remove the motor and rebuild it.
Questions:
Can the crankshaft and the connecting rod be ground down and I would put in oversized bearing?
JD dealer quoted me:
Crankshaft $825
Connecting rod $225
All bearings about $150
plus gaskets....reasonable

Anyone know somewhere online where I may be able to get these parts for less money?

I would take the crank to my local machine shop and ask them to check it. They should be able to measure it and determine what it will take to fix it. They may be able to simply turn it down to a standard undersize or they may need to build up the bearing journals first. It probably wouldn't hurt to take the rods and pistons along.

Parts are available online. Discount Tractor Parts There are probably other online sources as well.

One of the top two kits applies to your tractor. You'll need the serial number to determine which one.

The bottom four are kits for the two cylinder models made in the 50's and 60's using the same number designation. They will not fit your tractor.

The local machine shop is probably also a source of parts and may well be competitive. Good luck with your engine.
