My dad has got a 820 from the early 70s that he got from his dad who bought it new. Its showing 1289hrs but the tach isn't working so I'm not sure if the hour meter works since I believe they run off the same cable. His problem is when you press the clutch it makes a bad noise like the hydraulics aren't flowing or something is going into relief & I notice with low RPMs its not too loud then it'll get louder as the RPMs are increased. One of the lines near the brake pedal & one running next to the oil pan on the right side also seems to shake a lot when this happens.

I'm not sure how long he has ran the tractor with this happening but recently he complained about the 3pt hitch being slow which I know the usual culprit for that it the screen in the transmission being stopped up & I know since he has owned the tractor the hydraulic fluid/filter hasn't been changed so yesterday I did that & cleaned the screen in the bottom of the transmission. The old fluid & the screen wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to have been for it not to have been changed in years. I added new fluid & ran the machine & re-checked the fluid level & added as need.

The 3 pt. hitch seems to be faster now but its still making the noise when the clutch is pressed in. Any ideas to what direction I need to be going in? Other than this issue & a few leaks the tractor runs great. Thanks.

Sounds like you have a throw-out bearing or pilot bearing bad in the clutch. Either way, the tractor needs to be split to replace. You shouldn't continue to run it this way since it can do further damage the longer you run it.

I agree. However, there are some caps about 2.5 inch in the side of tractor next to the clutch pedal. One is to access a grease fitting on the throwout Bering. Pop the cap off with a screw driver and ther is a grease fitting.
May have to turn over engine to line up with access. Pump 1 pump of grease.
Work clutch in and out, then 1 or 2 more pumps. Too much grade and it will get on clutch disc. This might solve it.

And your 3 point issue is unrelated. Also, there is a little handle under the seat that adjust the flow. It screws in and out , turn clockwise and it moves slower, screwed all the way in and th arms won't move.

I have an 820 utility since new and it is a great tractor.

JD110, does the trans oil pump still run when the clutch is pushed in? I was thinking it may be the problem.

Hydraulic pump runs off the front of the engine....

It is my impression that the trans oil pump doesn't pump when the clutch is fully depressed. Not sure about whether it is turning whe the clutch is partially depressed. The transmission pump is driven by the holow pto shaft, you would think with the clutch fully depressed that all power transfer to the rear would cease.

IIRC on my old 4020 with independent pto depressing the clutch pedal would stop the transmission oil pump,

I agree that the trans pump drive shaft stops when clutch pedal is depressed. The vibrating hyd lines indicate frt hyd pump starvation for oil that trans pump is intended to be supplying.

How long are you holding in the clutch pedal when this happens? Because of the transmission pump I try to limit disengagement of the clutch to a couple of seconds.

That's what I was thinking when I made post #4, but was not sure if the trans pump stopped or not.

Without independent pto both the traction and pto clutches(dual stage type) stop turning with a depressed clutch pedal so nothing is spinning to power trans pump.
