JD 790. Escaping the Battery.

We finally got fed up with the battery in our 790 leaking and tearing apart the battery housing. I've done quite a bit of reading here and just recently did a search on this topic but I've still got a question.

If I'm correct the Optima Redtop 75-25 would be a good choice for replacement. Am I correct? Also, does anyone know of a good online source for this battery? I've looked at Optima's website and looked up the local dealers. However when I went into most of these places they had absolutely no clue what I was asking for. I got kind of fed up with it and if there's a good online source I'd love to hear about it.

We've taken the old battery out and are in the process of cleaning and repainting the damaged areas. All we need now is the replacement. Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

On a boating forum I participate in (THT) the concensus of opinion it that the Oddysey AGM battery is the best. The Sears DieHard Platinum batteries are one and the same made by Oddysey. These are available in group 24, 27 and (possibly) 31. There have been many complaints about the newer Optima batteries made in the last year or so, the older ones seemed to be much better. Offshore boats can take a real pounding in bad weather so they need batteries that can take it too.
