14 HP at the PTO
2 cylinder Yanmar Diesel
built 1981-1989

I've read about 'hoes for 'em..but that's a small machine

Will it handle a 5' rotary mower?
Get a 48" rotary cutter...if you mean brush hogging

Any comments are welcome good or bad.

Do a search here and on Compact tractor Board, but there's a start. I looked at one, but it had a PTO driven snow blower and was not in good enough shape for the price (don't recall the price)

I don't know, but as a comparison, I bougtht a '91 JD 670 MFWD with loader and (<1 year old) 5' Befco PTO finishing mower for $8500. The 670 has 16 HP @ the PTO, 3 Cyl Yanmar diesel with 600 hours (when I bought it). I borrow a friend's rotary cutter...a 4' unit. Although I know I could use the 5' unit, it'd be really slow. I wouldn't put a 'hoe on a machine this small (physically, same size as the 650 you're looking at).

It's your money, friend...but I think I'd keep looking...

Roy made some excellent comments. I'll add a few of my own. I just sold my JD650. Three dealers offered me $5,000 for a trade-in deal. I ended up selling it privately for the same price (long story). The Jd650 takes a no.67 loader and a no. 7 backhoe. I did not have a loader or a bk hoe on mine so I can't say how well they worked. I had a 54 inch snowplow on mine and 60 inch belly mower. I have seen JD650's sell for as much as $6,500 with the no.67 loader. Let me know if you have other questions.

Seems reasonable to my taking into account the 4WD and the loader. The 2001 Intertec Used Tractor Price Guide lists the 650 4WD (tractor alone) between $3400 and $6400 depending on condition and year. Condition would be important but at 1600 hrs a 650 should have lots of life left in it. Check for leaking seals especially in the front end. It would be nice if it had the mid mount mower and the front PTO. That electric PTO is expensive to add and not having it usually means you will be using 3 point implements. I think that the MMM, the front snowblower and maybe the power broom are the main implements that ran off the front PTO. It is on the small end of the compact spectrum but that can be a good thing depending on how you want to use it. There will be some 3 point implements that it will not be able to power. Can't hurt to ask if they will take a little less if you like the tractor.
