I have a 6210 that has 5800hrs and the clutch pedal is getting harder and harder to push down. It is to the point that if you use the FEL a lot it will wear you leg out trying to push the clutch repeatedly. The transmission to the best of my knowledge is the SynchroPlus Power Reverser. It has the 16 speed forward and reverse with the electric left hand reverser. I have already checked the clutch cable. I took the cable off at the control arm next to the transmission case. Then I was able to work the cable with my hand and it moved the clutch pedal up and down freely. The transmission itself doesn't show any signs of slippage and tractor has plenty of power. Any ideas as to what could be causing the clutch to be harder to push?

My question is why are you using the clutch pedal for fel work when you have the power reverser? That is what it is made for, shifting back and forward with out using the clutch pedal. Sorry have no idea on why the pedal gets harder and harder to use.

You are correct in that you do not have to use the clutch when shifting between forward and reverse, however if you are doing close tolerance work such as loading bales of hay onto a wrapper then the clutch is used.

Does this tractor have a hydraulic clutch? I think JD calls it a Perma-clutch.

If so, the clutch pedal operates a hydraulic valve for the clutch engagement/disengagement.

MAYBE the hydraulic oil is getting hot? Then the hydraulic valve parts become harder to move? Have you checked/cleaned the hydraulic oil cooler?

Understand now. I had smaller JD with power reverser just sold last Friday and can agree well with you on this.

Trying to think if I use the clutch on my 6200. I think you use the clutch anyway to control power, digging, so you probably use it to control forward and backward engagement. I do use it clutchless when maneuvering slowly but mostly to impress myself because it's a relatively new toy on my 6200. Original syncromesh tranny was a pile of junk from new.

Yes it has the hydraulic clutch. The pedal is just as hard if the tractor is running or not. Someone on another board said they had the same problem with a 6200 and the cable worked fine when unhooked but under pressure it was malfunctioning. I unhooked the cable and spring today from the transmission and the valve worked freely so it points back to a bad cable. I have ordered a new cable to try and hopefully that's the problem.

Those tractors have so many bloody cables prone to corrosion and freezing problems.

SEXY to have a flat operators platform and controls on a joystick and fender, but at a cost.

I learned to like the power reverser but it was a learning curve. Till I did used the clutch a lot. Then was using the clutch and power reverser at same time...but got very decent with the reverser loading small hay bale bundles and with loader bucket. Just sold the tractor and told the buyer you will like it when you lean it. a side note on it I learned to like, leave it in gear and it is a safety which many don't know about. I used that and the pto left engage to help prevent theft. The common safety switches most will know.

Hope the cable solves the problem.
