Howdy Ya'll?
I have a JD 5400 with the 540 Loader Hydraulic Setup.
The pistons (Part RE55057) broke and I am having trouble with the repair.
I found this thread:
[Removing JD 540 loader Joystick mechanism to replace broken valve controllers]http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/john-deere-ag-tractors/300893-removing-jd-540-loader-joystick.html[/URL]
And have tried to work through the repair but I am having trouble figuring out how to remove the piston.
Here are the diagrams that I found:
70-15-6 From the Technical Manual (TM1520)
View attachment cables.pdf
From the Parts Catalog:
View attachment joys1.pdf
Here is what the Joystick Assembly looks like

I removed these
Snap Rings from behind the nuts. But the nuts still don't come off. Am I missing something? I looks like there might be 2 sets of snap rings per piston, is that true? Is there anything else holding them in place?
Thanks for your help!
