Our 1958 JD 530 is the typical 12 volt battery, distributor, and coil system seen on a lot of cars. trucks, and tractors of that era. While doing a light refurbishing and inspection of the ignition and the electrics I was having trouble finding the original specs. Then this moring I opened an old factory shop book: the JD SM-2000 Shop Manual "Tractors & Engine (General)".
To my amazement the specs are all there! Even unusual things like how much centrifugal advance (degrees) it should have at various RPM, how to adjust the voltage regulator, expected starter motor torque, every generator output you could possibly want, and even the points condensor farads. All kinds of techy stuff in section 40-45.
Very handy for us guys who have hand tools instead of a room full of JD's factory diagnostic service machines & apps.
I'm thinking a person who went through JD's service school in the 1950s could hold his own with many college educated engineers of today.
