JD 5055e wiring Problems

Going through heavy brush my 5055e stopped running. The ignition fuse was burned and when I looked under the tractor there were two wires, one red, one white loose. I replaced the fuse and twisted the wires together and was able to run the tractor. Do these wires go to the PTO lever as a lockout to starting? If so, how do they connect?

Before you attach two wires together and power up you should figure out what they go to FIRST. You could have shorted something to ground and created another issue. It's difficult to diagnose a problem when the only clues are a red and white wire. Pics?

Here are some pictures. Since that time I can’t keep the battery charged. I disconnected the two wiresbut still lising the charge.
