I have a JD 5045D that I was starting and turning off a few times while fixing a tire. Suddenly, without changing anything, it won't start and the PTO engaged light comes on when I try to start it. PTO lever safety switch tests good and battery is fully charged. I'm confident it is a safety (PTO) circuit issue but cannot find any info. Two relays behind the dash engage when trying to start it. I need a starting circuit for a JD5045D or advise. Please help.

If the tractor thinks that the pto is still on, then perhaps there is wiring damage somewhere.
Being a "no coincidents" kinda person, is any of that wiring near the wheel you were working on?

I had a smiliar issue on my John Deere 7810. Operator wasn't paying attention and hit something, ultimately causing the PTO sensor to give a bad reading later on. The below part number seemed to help the situation. Thanks,

HUH?..... What does TPS have to do with PTO.... Does the tractor in question even have TPS.... IF PTO light is on, troubleshoot PTO circuit.... I would bet there is a failed relay or a wiring short somewhere in the circuit.... First thing to do is get wiring diagram, don't start replacing parts at random hoping to get lucky....

I would try the easy thing first and reseat all of your relays in your fuse compartment. If that doesn't fix it, Fuse F10 supplies the power to the safety circuit. S06 is the gear shifter neutral switch which is in series in with S02, which is your PTO switch, which is then driving the coil of Relay K05 of the safety circuit.

It's a 2010. It is a very basic tractor, no TPMS or anything like that. There are a few relays but nothing sophisticated in the electrical system. There are two relays that engage behind the dash when I try to start it but nothing else happens (again because the PTO Engaged light comes on). It is a very basic switch that is engaged when the PTO lever is in the off position. I cannot figure out what that switch feeds (relay I assume) in the electrical system.

First thing is to figure out what turns on light, then work back from there... If it were me, I would pull one relay at at time to see if light goes out and then... Proceed from there....
