I'm helping my dad pick out a mower for his property and settled on a JD X320. When looking at the website I noticed that for 2007 they eliminated the rotating wheels on the 48" mowing deck. What gives? They make removing the deck so much easier (as on my 62"). Is there a reason that this helpful feature ws removed?

Could it be to cut cost?

That's what I first thought, although the price didn't change  . It wouldn't change the decision to chose the tractor, but that was a nice feature. I wasn't sure if it was a different designed deck or something. Hopefully I can find a leftover 2006 model.

Jim, Mr. Brown suggested it was to reduce cost, not price:).

Yes, unfortunately it does seem to be the trend with everything these days!

Local Deere dealer I used to work at said that Deere has been "cutting costs" on a lot of things. He pointed the lack of rotating wheels out to me when I was looking for a used tractor. Bet that deck will be a bugger to pull out! Nice machine though, love the quality of cut Deere's decks give.

They probably looked at it this way: On the vast majority of lawn tractors sold, most owners never remove the mower deck from the machine in its lifetime. Thus the rear wheels were an easy place to cut some cost.
