I have found a used JD 48 back hoe - I am assuming it is compatible with the 4120 (seems the 448 curved stick is what everyone has now) - are there things I should consider for mounting it to a 4120 - I know I will have to add the power beyond kit- are there any issues with this and compatibility with the factory installed TnT? are there any special mounting plates/sub frames... that I will need - I am not sure what tractor the back hoe was mounted to so this may be included or it may not work with my tractor. As always thanks for the input.

Willie

UPDATE: Phone call to local JD dealer this AM said only 485 is compatible with my tractor - obviously this is the current model and available at the dealer - if you go to the JD website and custom build a 4120 the 48 backhoe is listed as an option - but if you look at the attachments compatibility page associated with the 4120 it does not list the 48 backhoe but 485 - I am thinking this may be because the 48 is not the current model available for sale.

Need some help

Im pretty sure I have the exact bracket you will need to mount that 48 to your tractor sitting in my shop. It is in almost new condition. I am 99 percent sure the 48 will fit your tractor, and it is a good backhoe.

That could be the same subframe I have a photo of here, SNOW. But I
wonder about your second photo that has "4200-4400" mentioned.

The 4x20 are considerably different from the 3x20, and the old 4x00s or
4x10s.

Anyway, I have no doubt the 448 can fit the 4120 with the correct brackets
on the tractor side as well as the hoe side.

Thanks for the answers - finally did talk to someone at the local JD dealership to confirm that the 48 hoe or the 448 will work on my 4120 - The 48 I was looking at is mounted to a 4600 - which has the same mounting bracket as used on the 4120 - confirmed with the guy selling the backhoe almost two hours away that the hoe was in good shape- no play in the pins no cracks welds ... when I pulled up I could see the front end loader sticking out of the shed - bucket was bowed, gnarled up tires cracked fiberglass - not looking good ... went to the back and the first think i noticed was the pin connecting the boom arm to the dipper (pivot point) had broken at some point and the frame of the hoe welded but still had an obvious bend at the connection point - it did not cause a clearance issue when lifting the dipper up & down - and it didn't even have any green paint - the pin that was in there had a good 3/16" inch of play in the outside holes an no grease - I think the hole had been worn out because of this - needless to say I passed on the attachment - the search continues.

Thanks again for the help!

Make sure what ever hoe you buy used they include the used brackets that mount on the tractor. The brackets that mount on the tractor will cost you about $1800 new. Even if they say the used will not work try to get them on the deal because most of the time they can be modified. JD said my old 448 backhoe would not work on my new 4520 cab. They said the mounting was wrong and the brackets would not work. Jd said the old hoe would hit the cab. They wanted $2000 for the new brackets and various parts. I modified my old brackets and hooked the hoe right up. It took me about 1.5 hours to modify and mount the old brackets. Works fine.
