Greetings All!
My 4600 refused to start today - cranks fine but no start. Of note, I do not hear the normal "click" when I turn on the key. I had problems with the thermistor in the past and replaced it - it solved past cold weather problems. I shorted the wires leading to the thermistor thinking it was bad again but same problem no start,no click. I'm wondering if now the fuel solenoid is bad or perhaps frozen - pretty cold here. No previous problems with the unit. Where exactly is the fuel solenoid located and is there a way to check it??
Many thanks for any suggestions!

Read the description of how the fuel shut off system works on the first attached page.

The fuel stop solenoid will be attached to the fuel injection pump.

Your model of John Deere incorporates safety features not found on many other tractors to protect the machine against reverse polarity booster cable use or battery charger not connected with correct polarity. To achieve this protection, diodes are incorporated within electrical circuits.

You mention shorting out a thermistor......

How did this happen?

Just unbolt it from the back of the injection pump & see if the tractor will start..
To shut it down, use your finger in the hole to push the control rack to shut off..

Thanks for all the suggestions - I believe the problem is solved. I tried three possible solutions and the problem was the fuel solenoid cut off unit. I ordered a new one online, installed and that solved the issue. The old unit - likely original, was literally full of oil - when you push the pin in it would flood with oil. While I am sure this was not a problem in warm weather - continuous cold weather likely prevented the pin from operating due to sticking from cold viscosity issues. With the old solenoid still installed, I ruled out the thermistor problem by removing the orange thermistor and directly shorting the wires together - - still did not hear any "click" with the key on. Checked out the ignition relays by swapping out one for another of the same type located in the fuse box. Once the new unit was installed (not difficult but NOT EASY to get to) the "click" was heard when the key turned on and she started right up. The new part was ~$22

and appeared to be of good heft and quality compared to the old. Will clean up the old unit and keep just for emergency use if needed.
