On my Jd 455 There is a float position on the snow plow up and down lever.
When I raise or lower the plow if I release the lever the plow will sometimes continue to move up or down.
It seems the control valve is sticking.
Can I repair the valve or does it have to be replaced?

You could have moisture and ice in the cans on the bottom of the valve.

The centering springs might be jammed up by ice crystals.

The float assembly is in the cans also.

Remove , inspect, clean and lube.

Make sure there is a weep hole in the bottom extreme of the valve can to let any water out.

Just spray the external moving parts of the valve liberally with WD-40 while working the lever back and forth. If that doesn't cure the problem then do above post. Lots of times they can have a bit of rust or dirt on them and cleaning with WD-49 is usually enough to take the stickiness away.
