JD 455 fuel shutoff solenoid

I've found that the fuel shutoff solenoid doesn't always pull-in when I turn the key and, therefore, it doesn't start.

I've attached a few pictures of the fuel shutoff solenoid. This is before I cleaned it up but there really wasn't much to clean from it. Do I lubricate anything before I reinstall it?

From what I've been reading, it sounds like the problem is likely wiring/electrical connections that power the fuel shutoff solenoid.

Any more suggestions for me to get this working properly? I'm not sure how to test for electrical issues. Maybe I could just replace a wiring harness if you think that might be the culprit.

How many wires? Reason I ask, is some use two coils, one or both to initially open the shutoff, then only one to hold it open. If it has more than two wires (12v and ground) you could have one bad coil.

Can you leave it unmounted and turn the key to make sure it is moving freely? The shaft looks rusty to me..

That's probably a 3 wire sol...
U hafta clean it better than that.. get some scotchbrite down into the bottom..
They are also adjustable.. MAKE SURE it works OFF the machine & then adjust it.. {get a book}

I ended up cleaning the solenoid the best I could and it improved the starting nearly completely. In the last approximately 40 starts, the solenoid only stuck once.
