JD 450 w/3110 Rippers

Hi all,
We rent an old ranch in CA and there is an old working JD 450 crawler dozer on the property with a set of JD 3110 Hydraulic Rippers attached to the rear. I have a couple of quick questions regarding this equipment:

1) Anyone know a good source to purchase used ripping shanks, or even new ones that won't include me doubling their cost to pay for shipping of these items?
2) i know the original shanks were on the order of 10-12 inches in length, i have seen sources online that sell up to 30" ripping shanks. I would prefer the longer shanks, as i would like to use the dozer for ripping up ground squirrel dens in addition to working the pasture. Is there risk of damaging the equipment by using oversized shanks?
3) i have the manuals to this equipment, but i did not see in them anywhere how to change the hydraulic attachments? in addition to the rippers we have an old backhoe that appears to be in good working order, i was wondering how difficult it is to switch attachments without some professional assisstance.

You know anybody at your Highway Maintainance Facility? Yah... the guys that plow the roads, mow the ditches, paint the strips in the middle of the road!

When the cutting edges and rippers on the graders and dozers, etc. wear out - they toss 'em in a "bone yard" for scrap.

The reversible cutting edge on my rear blade is courtesy of the DOT yard. They actually gave me 3-4 of 'em - so, I've probably got enough for my next tractor, too!

I'd also check any heavy equipment rental businesses - they sometimes have a "bone yard", too.

The problem with big ripper teeth is having enough power and traction to pull 'em. You're not likely to hurt your 450 with longer teeth - 'cause you probably won't get very far trying to pull 'em... Likely only pull one tooth; MAYBE two of that size before spinning out.

My neighbor has the hoe attachment for his 450. Looks like a job for someone that's done it before... Got a JD dealership in the neighborhood?
